Major Changes in HIPAA 5010

1. This new rule adopts the use of ANSI X12 version 5010 of EDI transactions in healthcare, replacing the older version 4010A1.

2. This new rule also addresses to adopt ICD-10, which is a modification of Medical Code Set Data.

3. It clarifies the NPI instructions and it’s use.

4. In HIPAA 5010 additional attention is paid to Privacy Issue around “Minimum Necessary” rule.

5. This new rule also eliminates the dependency on Companion Guide.

6. Additional attention is paid on Acknowledgement Transactions.

7. New rule will eliminate the PHI theft, fraud and abuse cases in healthcare industry.
